Follow up visit

To motivate the work of Self Help Groups (SHGs) on income generating and skill development activities, a visit to Palin was made on 27 & 28 May 2016. The visiting team Met Doni Yai SHG of Palin. The SHG is promoting by FGA under SHG federation led by Byabang Rocket. Doni Yai SHG currently engage on hand loom, weaving activities among them self. The group sale the product during local and national programs and festivals. The members are also supporting help to each other in their personal works. They are also interested to get education through which they can write their names, to put signature and basic knowledge of accounts maintaining. In this regard, they hire some literate person to teach them in their meeting hall. Other group members are engaged in Cardamom gardening in Palin area. Cardamom will change their social status if the production is profitable.

Later team visited Learning and Doing Center of Palin. The news is not good as villagers are encroached the larger part of its area and the condition of the LDC is also in a miserable condition.

The follow up team was accompanied by Atul Tayeng, Executive Director, FGA.

FGA Annual Board Meeting

Annual Meeting of Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) Board was held on 14th May, 2016 at FGA Office Itanagar under the chair of Mr. Omak Apang, Chairperson, FGA Board. The meeting had dealt at length on work of the FGA, future visions and urged all to contribute to achieve next step of scaling up. Members resolved that FGA program should be comprehensive based integrating health, skill development, SHG activities and initiative on organic movement.

CCC-SHG federation meet

On May 5th, 2016 , Meeting of Central Coordinating Committee for Self Help Group (SHG-F) federation organized in presence of Chair Mr. Byabang Rocket, President, CCC SHG-fed at Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) Office, Itanagar. SHG is a core program of Future Generations Arunachal to mobilizes the communities resources through developmental aspects. To mobilize these SHG's, a loan is provided from CCC SHG revolving fund against SHG activities proposal.

In the meeting, loan application from SHG's was approved and given the loan for year 2016-17. The CCC also accepted the resignation of CCC secretary and resolved that new secretary will take charge when FGA hire new staff in place of Takhe Meena. For some period of time, Rubu Ampi will act and take in charge of all accounts and files of CCC. A total of 12 SHG's from Palin, Ziro, Yazali/Yachuli, Sille-Oyan and Mechuka took a loan of Total Rs. 12.81 lakhs from the CCC revolving fund.

CCC members thank to Mr. Takio Makik, a SHG member from Choba village under Palin circle for receiving a loan of Rs. 1.25 lakh from the National Schedule Tribe Corporation Department, Govt. of India for piggery rearing. It would be mentioned here that Mr. Makik was supported by FGA to go piggery training at Rural Resource Training Center (RRTC), Umran, Shillong.

FGA encourages local people on Organic farm practices

Future Generations Arunachal organized 2 days training cum field demonstration on organic farming at Dambuk and Bizari on 7^th and 8^th January 2016. Resource person from Navdanya, a network for organic farming and biodiversity conservation, Sri D S Negi, National coordinator and Sri Kaling Moyong an organic tea practitioner imparted the training and filed demonstration on pest repellent, manure and seed preparation. The field demonstration was conducted at both agriculture garden and orange orchard and altogether more than 90 person comprising PRI, SHG members and farmers attended the training.  Progressive farmer and Orange growers Sri Makpak Perme and Sri Atek Linngi coordinated the training.

The training is aimed at encouraging the local people and the farmers to adopt and practice organic method in cultivation and to discourage the use of harmful chemical pesticide and fertilizers to protect ecology, maintain the bio diversity and to save the degradation of soil and human health. The training organized by the FGA in partnership with Navdanya and the local populace will continue for promoting the area a part of greater organic region. Work plan are being prepared by SHG members for furthering the Organic movement in the area. The program was equally supported by Atul Tayeng, ED, FGA.

Mid-Course Correction

A mid-course meeting between project executing staffs of FGA, FGI and Chairperson of Governing Board, (FGA) Mr. Omak Apang was held on 20^th December 2015 at Sille-Oyan. The meeting was attended by Atul Tayeng, ED, FGA, staffs including Dr. D. Pait, M.O. and Anyak Mize, Project Coordinator (PPP) and FG-India represented by Manjit Singh Bali, Director. Nawang Gurung attended the meeting as outside-in to put his suggestion and feedback. 

To bring development FGA should work according to step of work-plan, implementing of SEED-SCALE methodology and dedications from the Staffs and authorities. 

Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) Chairperson feels that SHG program is ongoing activities but beside this, FGA has to look other entry point to work with the Communities in other parts of the state.

Manjit Singh Bali, Director, FGI suggested that FGA working techniques need to be re-think in Broadway how to involve as much communities for development aspects to strengthen the organization, as suggested by Mr. Bali. He pointed that other potential areas should need to intervene for greater community participation.    FG-India and FG-Arunachal should  work on in partnership how these SHGs can be move ahead in other doable sectors. 

First half meeting was held in Primary Health Center (PHC) Sille where Omak Apang, Chairperson lead the meeting. Then he took the members for Field visit to Sille Village were the team met Neyi Darrang and families shared and recalled past memories of FGA’s work in the area. Then team headed for the lunch in Donyi-Polo Tea Estate and rest of the session was concluded there.

      

     Everyone in the meeting felt that overall proceeding was good learning experience. Few shared that it seems FGA is implementing activities in parallel direction which need to be re-integrate and work as a whole family to strengthen the organization. Few felt that today’s meeting reminded the old days of FGA’s working style. Some said, work-plan and documentation should be maintained for better recognition. 

      Emphasize on work-plan from each site, start with bottom-up, follow up should be done in regular intervals to encourage the ongoing activities. Follow-up gives opportunity to keep in touch with communities, to observe the practices being carried out by them. Need to work as Project Management Team (PMT) as felt by Chairperson.

     After whole day sharing and discussion, Mr. Nawang Gurung felt that FGA has to concentrate in the  following points for Mid-Course Correction, i.e.

·         Documentation

·         Structure
